Description

Key Moments, a large-scale internet project by Berlin-based artist Coco Bergholm, comprises a set of works that explore pivotal moments of both personal and universal significance. Bergholm uses a mixture of photography, painting and installation to capture and interpret these moments and render them visible in urban space. Key Moments emphasises the transience and importance of small and often overlooked events in everyday life. Using a combination of various media, Bergholm forges a profound visual narrative that invites viewers to reflect on their significance. Further “Key Moments”, together with a QR code, are to be found at hidden locations across the ironworks and the city of Völklingen.

Description

Only on closer inspection does the brickwork and masonry turn out to be a printed curtain that has been drawn across a wall or window niche in the city. Urban facades and all the details of a fragmented cityscape have been faithfully rendered in digital form and then reproduced on fabric. With Glitches, Coco Bergholm provides delicate moments of irritation on the city trail of the Urban Art Biennale – when the familiar becomes startling, and unusual or even inhospitable places are suddenly brought to mind. In the manner of trompe l’oeil, the camouflaged curtains reproduce the city’s surface texture while also providing an ideal refuge from prying security cameras.
